We are often asked by government and agencies to comment on issues affecting both our members and the motoring public.

Not only do we assess the potential effects that legislation may have on businesses, but we also represent member’s views to government. We look at the issues and work to avoid any potential problems before they affect members or the public.

A key task for MTA is to represent the interests of members to Government. This involves meeting with Government Ministers and officials to suggest policies that work for industry and responding to consultation papers produced by Government. MTA also works with like-minded industry bodies, no just in the automotive sector, to garner support for our views and to promote sensible policy outcomes that work for members, the public, and New Zealand Inc.

Recent submissions from 2022

Beyond the formal consultation and submission process, we are regularly talking to Waka Kotahi (NZTA) and the Ministry of Transport about vehicle safety standards, vehicle inspections, scrappage, and intelligent transport systems. We also continue to press for better support for apprentice training and for a relaxation of immigration settings to allow members the option of seeking badly needed resources from overseas.
